Qualcomm recently unveiled its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset at its Summit in Hawaii. The new Snapdragon chip brings substantial improvements over its predecessor, promising a 30% increase in performance and a 20% boost in power efficiency.
The new flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC will be adopted by several flagship smartphones in the coming months. Xiaomi and Vivo have already announced the launch date of their Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 smartphones, while others are expected to follow suit in the coming weeks. So without any delays, here’s a look at the first round of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones.
Xiaomi 14 Series
The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro are set to debut as the first smartphones with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Apart from the chip, we also know that the upcoming Xiaomi 14 series will feature a rear camera system co-developed with Leica, including a first-of-its-kind Summilux lens. Moreover, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro will also be the first to use the company’s new HyperOS Android skin, replacing MIUI. Other features on the Xiaomi 14 series will include a super-smooth OLED display, super-fast wired and wireless charging, an IP68 rating, and more. The Xiaomi 14 series launch date in China is set for October 26.
OnePlus 12 5G
The OnePlus 12 5G is also set to arrive later this year. Rumors about the OnePlus 12 5G has been doing the rounds for a few months now. However, the incorporation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip is all but confirmed on the OnePlus 12 5G. Another key feature that OnePlus recently confirmed was the display, which is executed in collaboration with BOE.
At a recent event, the Chinese smartphone maker confirmed that the OnePlus 12 5G would use a new and improved X1 display panel by BOE, which will feature a 2K resolution, a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, and a DisplayMate A+ rating. Moreover, the screen six breakthrough technologies. The OnePlus 12 5G is also expected to feature a 50 MP triple-camera setup in collaboration with Hasselblad.
Vivo X100 Pro Plus
The Vivo X100 series is launching in China on November 17. While the line-up will include the Vivo X100, X100 Pro, and X100 Pro Plus, only the Vivo X100 Pro+ is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The Vivo X100 Pro Plus could also get a quad-camera setup on the back with Zeiss optics.
Realme GT 5 Pro
Realme skipped the launch of a smartphone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. However, the Chinese smartphone maker has been teasing an upcoming smartphone with a periscope camera that is likely to feature a flagship specs sheet. The phone in question will likely be the Realme GT 5 Pro. Apart from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, the Realme GT 5 Pro is also expected to use a 2K OLED display by BOE, three 50 MP cameras, a 5,400 mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging and will runs Android 14 out of the box.
iQOO 12 Series
The iQOO 12 series is expected to make its debut in China next month on November 7. The line-up will include the iQOO 12 and iQOO 12 Pro. Rumors about the two devices have been doing the rounds for some time now and we’re likely to see the two devices soon. Both the iQOO 12 and iQOO 12 Pro will be powered by the newly released Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. The iQOO 12 series is also expected to come with up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. The ‘Pro’ model could pack a large battery with extremely fast wired and wireless charging.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series
The Samsung Galaxy S24 series will incorporate the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in most regions across the globe. The line-up will include the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will be one of the most highly anticipated smartphones of 2024.
Samsung is expected to bring a substantial camera upgrade to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. All three Galaxy S24 smartphones will feature OLED screens with LTPO technology. The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is expected to launch in India and globally sometime in late January or early February (2024).
Honor Magic 6
Honor also confirmed the launch of a smartphone with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The phone in question will be the Honor Magic 6. The Magic6 will harness the capabilities of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, incorporating its integrated generative AI language models to introduce a fresh personal assistant named YOYO. Another groundbreaking innovation is the Magic Capsule feature, a multimodal interaction system driven by eye-tracking technology and built upon the Snapdragon Seamless technology. Honor has yet to announce an official launch timeline for the Magic 6 but an official date could be announced in the coming weeks.
