Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) convened its 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday. During the conference, RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani addressed the company’s stakeholders. Ambani discussed the company’s accomplishments in 5G connectivity, artificial intelligence, the expansion of its telecom subsidiary Jio, and other topics. Reliance also made a number of announcements at the conference, including a new Jio TV operating system and many AI-powered services.

Key Announcements Made at the RIL AGM

Ambani highlighted that Reliance was investing extensively in deep technology through three main techniques. First, the corporation was integrating new technology into all of its companies in order to stay up with technological changes and increase operational efficiency. Second, the corporation was concentrating on developing crucial technology advances in-house in order to improve its goods and lessen its dependency on third-party vendors.

“Third, we have built an AI-native digital infrastructure for all Reliance businesses, and have built our software stack, integrating end-to-end workflows and real-time dashboards,” said Ambani. He also asserted that RIL, with its deep-tech integration, had the potential to become a top 30 worldwide firm in the near future.

5G and JioAirFiber

Regarding Jio, Ambani stated that the telecom company has secured over 350 patents in 5G and 6G technology. He also stated that Jio had more than 85% of the 5G radio cells operational in India. The corporation has also updated over 130 million users to True 5G networks.

The company’s JioAirFiber, a 5G-based home internet service introduced last year, is believed to have one million clients. The company now intends to spread the service to more than 100 million homes, 20 million small and medium-sized organizations (SMEs), 1.5 million schools and colleges, and over 70,000 hospitals.

JioBrain

Ambani also announced JioBrain, the company’s AI-powered platform that combines low latency 5G with machine learning (ML) capabilities to create new tools and applications. RIL is currently integrating JioBrain-powered AI technologies into its processes and solutions, resulting in end-to-end workflows.

Jio AI-Cloud Welcome Offer

During the RIL AGM 2024, Ambani announced the ‘Jio AI-Cloud Welcome Offer‘. Jio subscribers can receive up to 100 GB of free cloud storage as part of this deal. This year’s Welcome Offer will be launched during Diwali.

JioTV+

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), has unveiled new JioTV+ products. The subscription service provides access to over 860 live TV channels in HD definition, as well as content from over-the-top (OTT) streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar. Ambani further stated that the technology provides a “super-fast channel switching experience”.

Interestingly, customers will be able to access several OTT applications with JioTV+ using a single login. However, the business did not indicate whether customers will need to register in to each app individually under JioTV+.

The JioTV+ also has a recommendation engine, which may make personalized suggestions depending on the user’s viewing habits. Furthermore, a new function called Catch-Up TV allows viewers to watch a show on live TV even after it has aired. The feature may go back seven days.

JioTV OS and Hello Jio

During the AGM, a new operating system for the Jio Set-Top Box was launched, known as JioTV OS. Ambani claims that the new OS provides a quicker, smoother, and more personalized experience. It supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, as well as ultra-HD 4K video quality. The Chairman of RJIL further stated that the operating system will provide a unified interface for various apps, live TV, and entertainment.

Jio is also making improvements to Hello Jio, the voice assistant for its TV OS. Users may launch the Hello Jio app by tapping the microphone button on their Jio remote. The business is now incorporating generative AI into the system to allow natural language understanding.

Ambani claims that this would make locating material on JioSTB easier than before, as customers may make imprecise queries and the voice assistant will still be able to oblige. Furthermore, the tool can search for material across many OTT platforms and display a single, consolidated list.

The voice assistant may also be engaged with instructions like ‘Open Netflix’ or by typing the name of a movie, program, or song. It can also handle JioSTB features like volume and more.

The Jio App Store is another new feature added to the JioTV OS. Ambani stated that a huge collection of developers is creating fresh and unique apps for Jio Home. The platform has a growing collection of apps covering themes like as motion-based fitness, instructional material for children, commerce, and more. All of these applications may be accessible using the JioSTB.

JioHome App

Jio also unveiled a new JioHome app, which combines the company’s Internet-of-things (IoT) products with the JioTV OS. The app will serve as a personal control center for all IoT capabilities, allowing users to manage multiple devices such as Wi-Fi, smart gadgets, and more with a few clicks. It also has tools for virus detection and guest Wi-Fi control.

JioPhoneCall AI

Another significant announcement at the RIL AGM was the JioPhoneCall AI. The service provides customers with AI features with each phone conversation. It can record and store phone calls in Jio Cloud, then automatically transcribe them using an in-house algorithm. It may also summarize the call and translate it into many languages. Ambani stated that this will make phone calls searchable and shared.

Jio customers will get a distinct phone number for PhoneCall AI. Users can include the number in their call (as a conference call). Once completed, a welcome message will be played. Following that, users can hit “#1” to begin recording and transcribing the call. The AI will also make sporadic alerts that the call is being recorded. Users can interrupt transcribing by pressing #2. To continue, users can hit #1. When the user wishes to stop transcribing and recording, they can hit #3.

JioCinema

Ambani also discussed the rise of JioCinema, Jio’s in-house OTT platform. He said that the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season was viewed by 62 crore users in India, a 38% increase from prior seasons. He further stated that JioCinema attracted 15 million paying members in just 100 days. The portal now has original series, as well as selected reality shows, movies, and material from HBO, Paramount, and NBCUniversal.
